DIY Perfect Pillow: The Science and Design of Sleep Posture

This is a hands-on workshop created to empower you to design your own perfect pillow based on the science of sleep, posture and the needs of your neck.

Mondays, January 7, 14, 21, 28, 7-9 pm

You'll learn about the spine, sleep positioning and the importance of rest in resetting the body's neutral position. You'll focus on our own posture goals and do a physical assessment of our spines. You'll take that info and experiment with materials, shapes and density for our own perfect pillow. You'll get a chance to rest on your prototypes throughout the week and then on the final class, you'll construct a pillow made specifically for your body.

This is a truly unique class that blends science, design and craft that could leave you waking up more restful and in better posture for the days ahead. You spend about 1/3 of your life in bed. Why not create a pillow just for you?

Materials included in this 4 week course:
You'll have access to a sewing machine and all the fixins (needles & threads), pattern paper, scissors, utility knives, muslin cloth and some materials you can use to experiment with.

On the first class, bring in any materials you might want to use or share including used pillows to deconstruct, memory foam, mattress toppers, dried beans, used towels, old tshirts, rugs, etc. We're going to get creative with materials so think outside the box. On the second class, you'll be expected to bring materials for your projects. We'll talk about how to keep costs low.

Class Size:
This is an intentionally small class of only 4 people.

Classes take place in Brooklyn, 1 block from the B/Q at Church Ave. Exact address will be given upon enrollment.

$235 before December 10
$250 after December 10
